After Pokemon missed a trick and didn’t release Penny’s Eevee bag as a physical merch item until May this year, it’s finally coming to PTCGP – wait that’s not what I’m meant to be talking about…
Pokemon TCG Pocket took the world by storm last October when it was first released to the world, and while for some players, the initial hype may have died off and the filthy genwunners have seen enough of “Ultra Beasts” and “Mythicals” and decided to go back to complaining on the internet their beloved franchise they haven’t touched in over 20 years is ruined – for some of us, PTCGP is still a part of our daily routine, wake up, get to work, open packs, get disappointed, rinse and repeat, but this week’s upcoming set might bring the limelight back to the mobile edition of the beloved TCG, as Eevee Grove launches on Thursday!
Last year, The Pokemon Company released a new set into the physical Pokemon TCG known as Prismatic Evolutions, which featured beautiful artwork of Eevee and all of its Eeveelutions, however, due to the popularity of Eevee and these cards, stock quickly vanished, and scalpers ran riot, selling packs for extortionate prices, and now Pokemon have decided to cash in on the Eevee hype in the mobile game.

Releasing on the 26th of June, Eevee Grove is adding over 100 new cards to the game, including ex cards of Eevee, Flareon and Sylveon, not to mention the new trainer card “Eevee Bag” – we got our wish after all!
Each new set released to the Pocket TCG shakes up the meta significantly, and usually the new cards dominate the meta until next month’s set takes over, it’s rare that a staple card is still very playable more than a month after release due to the power creep of new sets, but can Eevee and their colourful cohorts really topple the Ultra Beasts off the top spot? I’d sure love to think so, in fact, I managed to get my girlfriend into the Pokemon TCG by building her a Flareon ex deck earlier this year, and she has consistently wiped the floor with my decks, and some of those we face at our weekly league, including the likes of Charizard, Dragapult and Raging Bolt.

So don’t let looks deceive, Eevee is here to cause quite the stir in PTCGP, and thankfully this time, the cards won’t all be scalped immediately and there’s an infinite supply of packs for you to throw your money at in hopes of pulling this month’s meta staple, whatever that turns out to be.
Stay tuned on Thursday as I count through the winners and losers from the Eevee Grove set, as has become a monthly tradition here on my site, and on Monday we’ll see how much the new cards have shaken the meta in our weekly meta spotlight!
