X gon’ give it to ya!
10 years have passed since we were first introduced to Team Rainbow in what was at the time, a disappointingly different game to the trailers we had been seeing. A decade later, this game has matured into the diamond standard of tactical FPS games. Every year we have gotten used to the roadmaps of new operators, new maps, character reworks, but now in Year 10 we’ve got something brand new.
How about a whole new game? Well, okay, by “new game” I mean what CS2 was to CSGO, a huge graphical overhaul to modernise a now outdated title, as well as a jump to a Free To Play model, which introduces a whole host of new players, but obviously comes with its negatives too.
Siege X allows new players to unlock 26 operators on their way to reaching level 50, the level required to queue for a ranked match, this give the new players time to learn the game and try out different operators without being put off by the grind that early Siege players who only bought the starter pack will remember all to well. On the topic of early players, us OGs will be getting “Veteran Rewards” when we log in to Siege X, badges for your player cards showing off the year you started playing, as well as skins depending on when you first launched the game.

A War on Two Fronts
Siege X is also debuting a new game mode, Dual Front, which allows players to mix and match attackers and defenders all on one team, with new gameplay elements such as respawns and in-game events all on the biggest map ever released in Siege.

Dual Front will be a 6v6 mode, a bigger fight than the tactical 5v5 gameplay of the standard bomb defusal mode we’ve grown to love, now instead having to work together to capture objectives on the new Dual front exclusive map, District. Have you ever wanted to defend a site as Fuze and blast attackers as they push on to the site? Or how about attacking as Doc, taking risky peeks and being able to heal yourself? Well now this is possible, as dual front allows you to pick any operator you like for whatever task is at hand.
A Fresh Coat of Paint
Seeing as the game is now 10 years old, some of the visuals have become a little dated, don’t get me wrong, I think Siege is a great looking game, even now, but Ubisoft have begun the process of graphically overhauling the maps in the game, starting with 5 classics: Kafe Dostoyevsky, Chalet, Bank, Border and Clubhouse.

Clash Rework
Siege X is launching in parallel to Year 10 Season 2, and as with every season, where we usually see new operators or reworks for operators, this season is no different, as everyone’s most hated shield-wielding, electric shocking officer from the Metropolitan Police is getting her long needed rework.
Clash has always been in a strange spot, a devastating operator against new players, and a joke to higher ranked players, the goal here to make Clash more viable at all levels of play, so to start off, the biggest change is going to be the ability to deploy her CCE Shield and use it as cover to peek around, much like the Deployable Shield gadget to defenders, or the even stronger Talon-8 Clear Shield used by attacking operator, Osa, that allows her to see through the shield and take rapid peeks against defenders who aren’t ready to react. Now, this option has been given to defenders, if Clash places her shield down, she can remotely trigger the electric shocking powers to slow attackers down before rapidly peeking around her shield to take the kills.

Of course, having her shield be deployable like this isn’t without problems, as it can now be destroyed while deployed with explosion-based attacker utility, like Ash’s Breach Charge, Ace’s Selma Charge or Zofia’s Impact Grenades. This leaves Clash completely exposed and shieldless like all her defender counterparts, so you need to choose wisely when and where to leave your shield if you’re not carrying it.
Clash can now also crouch and sprint with her CCE Shield in hand, crouching, like standing, the shield still covers her whole body from attacks, but while sprinting, parts of her body get exposed, similar to how Blitz or Blackbeard’s legs are visible while they have their shields deployed.
Will this change make Clash a more viable pick in the higher ranks? Maybe. The idea of being able to deploy and peek around her shield is definitely a fun concept, and with good coordination, I’m sure there will be some crazy plays coming from this new rework.
